Welcome!
Welcome to Eldergreen, a group of folks, 55+, who are creating a sustainable, 'green' cohousing community in the vicinity of Carrboro, NC. Our members are committed to caring for each other so that we may be able to "age in place" in a joyful and meaningful second half of life.
Our efforts were profiled in the Carrboro Commons article, "'Burning souls' planning Eldergreen cohousing", Spring 2008.
You can also find us in the Intentional Communities directory.
Join Us On Our Journey
Our commitment is to build a car-independent community within walking distance of a vibrant downtown. Determined to have a minimum footprint we are envisioning a building of at least three stories which will be as 'green' a building as we can afford.
The intended size of our community is 20 - 30 individual units with a common house and outdoor gardening areas. We desire to downsize our possessions to accommodate a more active life style.
We intend to have as many affordable units for individuals with incomes meeting federal affordable guidelines as possible.
Currently we are pursuing potential building sites near downtown Carrboro as well as considering similar sites in Chapel Hill or nearby Hillsborough.
In addition to our bi-weekly planning sessions, we also enjoy sharing potluck gatherings, playing games, attending local artistic events and taking nature walks together.
If such a future lifestyle seems appealing, you are most welcome to join our journey as visitors with option to become active members
